This qualification allows for the attainment of general competencies and also specialisation in dog handling, supervision and leadership, case management, community or emergency response streams.
Candidates for this qualification will normally be employed in the supervision and management of offenders and detainees in the criminal justice system or within immigration detention centres, in Australian states and territories.
The general qualification covers the competencies allowing experienced staff to reflect advanced practice and greater team leadership roles.
The case management specialisation covers the competencies required by staff members responsible for case management of offenders in custodial or community settings.
The community specialisation covers the competencies required by staff responsible for supervising offenders directly or indirectly in the community and within specified parameters of responsibility defined by work activities, or by the complexity of assessment offender’s needs and risks.
The dog handling specialisation covers the competencies required by staff responsible for the maintenance of canine health and welfare and the utilisation of canines for detection and security purposes.
The emergency response specialisation covers the competencies required by staff responsible for responding to and supervising serious incidents or events that occur within custodial settings.
The supervision specialisation covers the competencies required by staff responsible for supervising staff and/or offenders in the correctional environment.
Elective units may also be drawn from other training packages to reflect the work context and career plans of the individual. Elective units should reflect the responsibilities of the individual and the job skills required for effective performance.
No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.
